What is the Salt River Sunset Kayaking Tour?
A guided sunset kayak float on the Lower Salt River. You’ll paddle through golden hour into early twilight as the sky reflects off the water, with glowing red rock cliffs, lush riverbanks, and evening wildlife along the way. Your tour includes a safety-certified guide, all kayaking equipment, Tonto National Forest entry and parking fees, snacks and bottled water, and a roundtrip shuttle from the meeting point to the river.
How long is the tour?
Approximately 1.5–2 hours on the water. The tour meets at the Canal/Hawes Park & Ride, where a shuttle takes you to the Lower Salt River launch and returns you to your vehicle afterward.
Where does the tour take place?
The route varies between sections of the Lower Salt River, from Saguaro Lake to Granite Reef, chosen daily based on water levels.
Is this a guided tour?
Yes. All tours are led by a professional safety-certified guide who shares insights into the Sonoran Desert’s geology, wildlife, and river ecosystem along the way.
Will we see wildlife?
Wild horses often come down to the river at dusk, but sightings are not guaranteed. Herons, egrets, bald eagles, and other birds are common along the banks in the evening.
Do you offer a daytime kayaking tour?
Yes. Our Salt River Kayaking & Wildlife Experience runs the same stretch of the Lower Salt River earlier in the day.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
What skill level is required?
None — this is an approachable, beginner- and family-friendly float on calm Class I moving water, great for first-time paddlers.
Are there age or weight restrictions?
Guests must be at least 12 years old and weigh at least 35 lbs. Maximum participant weight is 275 lbs.
What footwear is required?
Secure water shoes or sport sandals that can get wet and won’t fall off. Flip-flops and bare feet are not permitted.
WHAT TO BRING & WHAT TO WEAR
What should I bring?
Bring water shoes or sport sandals, comfortable athletic clothing, a change of clothing, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), a light jacket or layer for cooler evening temperatures, and any medications you may need. You are also welcome to bring a camera.
What equipment is provided?
We provide inflatable kayaks, paddles, PFDs, and dry storage for personal items.
WEATHER & SEASONAL CONDITIONS
When does the sunset tour depart?
The tour operates year-round with prior reservation. Departure windows vary by season: January–February 3:00 PM–6:00 PM, March–May 15 4:00 PM–7:00 PM, May 16–August 5:00 PM–8:00 PM, September 1–15 4:00 PM–7:00 PM, and September 16–December 6:30 PM–8:00 PM. Your exact meeting time is confirmed when you book.
What happens if it rains?
Tours operate rain or shine. We only cancel tours for dangerous weather conditions, and that decision is made solely at the discretion of 360 Adventures.
PICKUP & TRANSPORTATION
Where does the tour meet?
The tour meets at the Canal/Hawes Park & Ride in the Phoenix area, where you board our shuttle to the Lower Salt River launch site.
How does the shuttle work?
Roundtrip shuttle transport from the meeting point to the river is included. After your paddle, the shuttle returns you comfortably to your vehicle.
Is hotel pickup available?
Yes. Hotel pickup is available for $295 per activity.
MEALS & AMENITIES
Are food and drinks provided?
Bottled water and light snacks are included for the duration of the tour.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Can I bring a camera?
Yes — a waterproof camera or phone case is recommended for capturing the sunset and scenery. Dry storage is provided on the water to keep personal items safe.
BOOKING & POLICIES
How much does the tour cost?
$148 per person. Single kayaks are available for an additional $10 per person, private tours for an additional $200 per activity, and hotel pickup for $295 per activity. Contact us for groups over 12.
Are reservations required?
Yes. All river tours must be booked in advance to secure equipment and transport.
Is there a minimum group size?
There is a 4-person minimum for this tour. Groups may be combined to meet the minimum. Private tours are also available for an additional $200 per activity.
What should I tell you when booking?
In the Special Request box at booking, let us know if you would like a single kayak, hotel pickup, or a private tour. For groups over 12, include your group size so we can plan equipment and transport accordingly.
Are gratuities included?
No. Guide gratuities are not included in the tour price.
What is the cancellation policy?
