Duration: 1.5-2 hours on water

Tour Highlights

  • Wild Horse Habitat: Paddle through the primary riverside territory of the famous Salt River wild horses.
  • Dramatic Geology: Float beneath towering red rock cliffs and ancient volcanic formations unique to the region.
  • Bird Watching: Scan the skies and cliffs for nesting bald eagles, blue herons, and desert hawks.
  • Professional Guiding: Gain expert insights into Sonoran Desert hydrology and the history of the Salt River Valley.

Tour Itinerary

We meet at the Canal/Hawes Park & Ride to gear up before taking our shuttle to the Lower Salt River launch site. Your guide provides a thorough on-shore safety briefing and paddling orientation to ensure everyone is comfortable before we hit the water. Once we launch, we begin a steady float downstream, navigating gentle riffles and calm pools while soaking in the Superstition Mountain vistas.

The middle of the tour focuses on wildlife observation as we drift past lush riverbanks and towering mesquite bosques. We may stop at a scenic beach for a quick snack and water break, allowing time to stretch and scan the cliffs for eagles. We conclude the journey where our shuttle waits to return you comfortably to your vehicle.
