Tour Overview
Desert Rock Escape is a private, half-day climbing experience perfect for beginner to advanced climbers who want time on real rock without a full-day commitment. We select from Phoenix- and Scottsdale-area climbing areas, including Tom’s Thumb near Scottsdale and Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, based on season, conditions, and your group’s goals.
Duration: 3–4 hours
Tour Highlights
- Certified Expertise: AMGA or PCGI certified climbing guides with extensive local knowledge.
- Customized Cragging: Routes selected based on your ability and preferences.
- Multiple Area Options: Climbing areas chosen from Queen Creek near Superior, Tom’s Thumb near Scottsdale, and Camelback Mountain in Phoenix to match season, conditions, and group goals.
Tour Itinerary
We start with a quick pre-trip conversation to understand your experience, goals, and overall comfort level. That’s when we choose the climbing area for the day—each location has its own meeting point, which we confirm ahead of time. When we meet up, we’ll do a simple gear check and make sure you have everything you need.
Once we’re at the crag, we’ll walk through the plan and choose routes that match your ability and the permits we operate under. We’ll climb routes of varying grade and move around throughout the day so you get the most out of your time on the rock. Anchors are typically bolted, and when natural features make more sense, we use those. We’ll keep you climbing at a steady, comfortable pace—usually right up until you decide you’ve had your fill.
Once we’re done, we’ll pack up and head out. Make sure to ask your guide where their favorite post-climb spot is… they’re locals, after all.
