Red Rock Shredder: Sedona's Guided MTB Challenge for Experienced Riders

Red Rock Shredder: Sedona's Guided MTB Challenge for Experienced Riders

Sedona, But With the Gloves Off

You've seen the photos: riders balanced on knife-edge rock, punching through technical chutes, floating over boulder fields with Cathedral Rock filling the sky. That side of Sedona is real - and it's exactly what the Red Rock Shredder tour is built around.

This is the challenge tier of Sedona mountain biking: legendary intermediate-to-advanced singletrack, custom-routed by guides who know where the good lines hide. If flow trails are the on-ramp, this is where the real riding begins.

What "Shredder-Level" Riding Actually Means

The Red Rock Shredder isn't one trail - it's a standard. The tour targets Sedona's most rewarding technical terrain:

  • Technical features: Rock rolls, ledges, and tight sequences that reward good body position and committed lines.
  • Rocky climbs and descents: Terrain that asks real questions - and makes the answers feel earned.
  • Fast singletrack: Flowing stretches where you can open up the pace between the technical sections.

The payoff is the scenery that comes with it: Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Courthouse Butte riding along on the horizon the whole way.

A Custom Route, Built on the Day

Here's the part most tour companies can't offer: there's no fixed script. Your guide crafts a custom route that challenges and inspires, selecting terrain based on your group's skills, fitness, and goals - and adjusting for trail conditions on the day. That's the difference between a canned loop and the best possible Sedona riding experience for the riders who actually show up.

Coaching That Keeps Up

Even strong riders level up fast with real-time coaching on technical terrain. On the Red Rock Shredder tour, the coaching happens on-trail, at speed:

  • Line choice: Reading the best line through rock gardens and drops before you commit.
  • Braking: Where to slow, where to drag, and where to let the bike run.
  • Body position: Staying centered and loose when the terrain gets steep and fast.

And between features, your guide fills in the story - the geology and history behind the formations you're riding under.

The Right Machine for Technical Terrain

On chunky, technical terrain, bike choice matters. Every rider gets a high performance front suspension bike, and full-suspension upgrades may be available - the right tool for rocky rolls and repeated hits. Helmet, bottled water, trail snacks, and all park entry fees are covered too.

Who This Ride Is For

The Red Rock Shredder tour is built for riders who want a real challenge:

  • Intermediate to advanced mountain bikers: You should be comfortable on difficult singletrack with rocks, roots, and elevation change.
  • Riders age 12+: Minimum age is 12, and riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Groups wanting a private challenge: Private tours are available for a $75 group fee - just your crew on the trail.

Plan for approx. 3 to 4 hours on trail, with distance and pace tailored to your group. For the full rundown on gear, meeting details, and booking, see the Sedona Mountain Biking FAQ.

Timing & Logistics

From May through September, departures are at 8:00 AM - an early window to beat the midday heat. From October through April, rides go out at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. You'll meet at our bike shop partner in the Village of Oak Creek, where your bike fit and gear check happen before you roll. The location and map instructions will be in your confirmation. Bring closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen; water and trail snacks are covered.
