Inside Lower Antelope Canyon
The headline is Lower Antelope Canyon, and no photo quite prepares you for it. You'll follow the winding, time-sculpted corridors with a local Navajo guide — the people who know this place best — hearing the story of the canyon's geology and history firsthand as the light plays across the sandstone walls.
A few practical notes: the canyon involves steep metal ladders and stairs, uneven sandstone, and some narrow sections, so it calls for steady footing rather than serious fitness. And you'll travel light — bags, purses, backpacks, tripods, and hiking poles aren't allowed inside the canyon, so a phone or camera in your pocket is all you need.
The Walk to Horseshoe Bend
The second act is a scenic 1.5-mile round-trip walk to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook. The trail is a maintained dirt path with no shade, and the payoff is one of the most famous views in the West: the emerald-green Colorado River carving a near-perfect curve through Glen Canyon, roughly 1,000 feet below the rim. It's one of those views where the whole group goes quiet for a minute.
Page, Lunch & Lake Powell
Between the two landmarks you'll get a feel for the town of Page and views of Lake Powell. A casual lunch is included — typically a sit-down restaurant with plenty of options — and a quick breakfast and bottled water are covered all day, so there's nothing to plan around meals.
One thing that surprises guests: Page sits at elevation and typically runs 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. It can feel hot in summer and chilly in winter, so dressing in layers is the smart play.
Who This Tour Is For
Anyone who wants to check off two bucket-list sights without renting a car or planning a road trip. The day is rated moderate — about 2 miles of walking in total, with ladders and uneven sandstone in the canyon — and welcomes kids ages 3 and up. You'll ride in a climate-controlled small-group touring van with charging ports to keep your camera ready.
Know Before You Go
A few things that make the day go smoothly:
- Reservations are required. Public tours depart Thursdays and Saturdays, a minimum number of guests is needed to confirm each departure, and Antelope Canyon frequently sells out.
- Pickup is arranged the day before. Departures are from select hotels in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe; pickup locations are optimized and confirmed the day prior, and our office will contact you upon booking.
- Meals are covered. A quick breakfast, a casual lunch, and unlimited bottled water are all included.
- Permits and fees are included. The Navajo Park Permit fee and National Recreation Area fees are covered in the price.
- Travel light for the canyon. Bags, purses, backpacks, tripods, and hiking poles are not allowed inside Lower Antelope Canyon.
