We meet 2 hours and 15 minutes before sunset, roll out 2 hours before, and position the convoy so that when the sky starts to turn, you're already out there - throttle in hand, driving straight into the light. What Golden Hour Does to the Desert
The Sonoran Desert saves its best colors for last. As the sun drops, the sky shifts through every warm color while long shadows stretch across the dunes and saguaros go dark against the glow. We pause at a scenic vantage point while the sky ignites - this is the moment the free golden-hour photos are made.
As the light turns gold, the desert comes alive: coyotes, jackrabbits, and desert birds emerge for the evening, and if you're lucky, the wild Salt River mustangs put in an appearance. Then you cruise back under the first stars, 2+ hours on the trail in total, with a driver switch at the midpoint so both riders get wheel time.
The Practical Stuff
- Price: $299 per 2-seat sand buggy - two riders, one machine ($150 per person). When groups have an odd number of drivers, a single-driver buggy is $199. Price does not include tax (9.02%), a permit fee ($7.99 per vehicle), a fuel surcharge ($12.99), or optional guide gratuities.
