What is the Sunset Dune Buggy Tour?
The same legendary Tonto National Forest trails as our daytime tour, timed to sunset: drive your own 800cc 2-seat sand buggy into golden hour as the sky over the Sonoran Desert ignites in reds, golds, and purples.
How is the sunset tour different from the daytime tour?
Same trails, same buggies, different light. Sunset departures run in the coolest, most comfortable hours of the day, with golden-hour color, dusk wildlife, and free sunset photos - and you cruise back as the first stars appear.
What type of vehicles are used?
High-powered 800cc 2-seat sand buggies - sit inside with a steering wheel, seat belts, and a roll cage. If you can drive a car, you can drive this buggy.
How long is the tour?
2+ hours on the trail, timed to sunset, with additional time at check-in for gearing up and the safety briefing.
Can we switch drivers during the tour?
Yes. Trade driver and passenger at the trail midpoint so both riders get equal time behind the wheel.
SCHEDULE
What time do sunset tours depart?
Every departure is timed to the sun: we meet 2 hours and 15 minutes before sunset and roll out 2 hours before sunset, so you're on the trail as the desert turns gold. Meeting times shift with the seasons - earlier in winter, later in summer - and your exact meet time arrives with your confirmation.
Is the tour available year-round?
Yes. Sunset tours run year-round, and tours run rain or shine.
Where do we meet?
At our OHV staging area in the Tonto National Forest. Exact directions and your sunset-timed meeting time arrive with your confirmation.
BOOKING & PRICING
How much does the sunset tour cost?
$299 per 2-seat sand buggy - two riders, one machine ($150 per person). When groups have an odd number of drivers, a single-driver option is $199. Price does not include tax (9.02%), a permit fee ($7.99 per vehicle), a fuel surcharge ($12.99), or optional guide gratuities.
What is included?
An expert guide leading the route, DOT-certified helmets, goggles, and a souvenir Face Gator, bottled water and light snacks, free golden-hour action photos of your tour, and all Tonto National Forest trail permits.
What is the cancellation policy?
This tour has a 72-hour cancellation policy. Please read your confirmation email for details.
REQUIREMENTS
How old do you have to be to drive?
Drivers must be 16 or older with a valid driver's license. Passengers must be 8 years or older.
Do I need off-road experience?
No. No experience is needed - a full safety briefing and vehicle orientation come before the ride, and the guide leads the whole way.
What should I wear and bring?
Closed-toe shoes are required. Bring a light jacket or layer - the desert cools quickly once the sun drops - plus sunglasses and sunscreen for the drive out, and a camera for golden hour.

What will we see at sunset?
The sky shifting through every warm color as you drive toward the sunset, with a pause at a scenic vantage point while the sky ignites. As the light turns gold, the desert comes alive - coyotes, jackrabbits, and desert birds emerge, and if you're lucky, the wild Salt River mustangs.
Do we get photos?
Yes - free golden-hour action photos of your run are captured by the team and included with every tour.
Are there restrooms on the trail?
There are typically no restroom facilities on desert trails. Plan accordingly and use facilities before arriving at the staging area.
