It's a private, fully customized day that blends time below the rim with the South Rim's greatest viewpoints — shaped around your group's pace, fitness, and interests. However your day takes shape, you're guaranteed at least 5 hours in the park.
The Hike
Your guide selects the trail after meeting your group — that's the whole point. Beginner-friendly routes typically follow the South Kaibab Trail out to Ooh Aah Point, a 3/4-mile descent to one of the canyon's most dramatic viewpoints (and our usual lunch spot). Groups looking for more challenge might head down the Grandview, Hermit, or Bright Angel trails. Either way, you'll experience the canyon from the inside out — 2 billion years of geology underfoot, with your guide narrating the rock layers, wildlife, and human history along the way.
The Scenic Tour
Whatever time you don't spend below the rim is spent above it. Your guide drives you to the South Rim's best overlooks — Yavapai Point, Mather Point, Grandview Point, Lipan Point, and the historic Desert View Watchtower among them — timing stops for the best light and the fewest crowds. It's the sightseeing tour, woven into the hiking day.
How the Day Flows
Your day starts with a morning pickup from your lodging in Flagstaff (7:45 AM), Williams (8:30 AM), Tusayan (9:30 AM), or Grand Canyon Village (9:45 AM). After the scenic drive and a short orientation at the park, you hit the trail. Midday, a gourmet picnic lunch appears at a scenic spot — freshly prepared, with dietary restrictions accommodated. The afternoon brings more hiking or rim viewpoints and historic Grand Canyon Village landmarks before the comfortable ride back. Total day: 5.5–9.5 hours depending on your pickup location.

Guide Tips for the Day
A few things I tell every group before we head into the canyon:
- Closed-toe shoes are required. Broken-in hiking boots or trail shoes with real tread — no sandals, no flat soles.
- The rim sits at 7,000 feet. Hydrate well the day before, and pace yourself — the uphill return always takes longer than the descent.
- Dress in layers. Rim temperatures can run 20–30°F cooler than the inner canyon.
- Tell us about dietary restrictions at booking. Lunch is freshly prepared for your group.
- Bring a camera with a strap. Items dropped over the edge are gone forever.
