What is the Camelback Mountain hiking tour?
This is a strenuous guided hike to the summit of the most famous peak in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, led by professional outdoor guides.
How long is the tour?
The total duration is approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the group’s pace and trail conditions.
What will I see from the summit?
The summit offers 360-degree views of the entire Valley of the Sun, including downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale, and the surrounding mountain ranges.
Is this a guided experience?
Yes. A professional guide (WFR or EMT certified) remains with you throughout the entire hike to assist with navigation, safety, and technical rock scrambling.
How difficult is the tour?
This tour is rated as strenuous and extremely difficult. It involves steep grades, uneven terrain, and sections that require hand-over-hand scrambling.
What is the minimum age for this hike?
This hike is designed for physically fit participants. Please contact us for guidance on youth participants to ensure the experience is appropriate for your group.
Is elevation a concern?
You will gain approximately 1,200 to 1,420 feet of elevation in a short distance. While the summit is 2,704 feet above sea level, the rapid gain makes it a high-exertion activity.
What should I wear?
Wear lightweight, moisture-wicking athletic clothing. Sturdy, closed-toe athletic shoes or hiking boots with good traction are mandatory for the rock sections.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. We provide a backpack if you do not have one to carry your water and snacks.
Are hydration and electrolytes provided?
Yes. We provide bottled water and electrolyte drinks. For the Phoenix environment, it is critical to begin hydrating 24 hours before your hike and utilize electrolytes to maintain mineral balance during high exertion.
When is this tour available?
Tours run year-round, but summer departures (May–September) are limited to early morning starts to ensure guest safety before temperatures reach dangerous levels.
Do tours run in bad weather?
Tours may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of lightning, heavy rain (which makes rocks slippery), or excessive heat warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
Where does the tour depart from?
The tour meets at either the Echo Canyon Trailhead or the Cholla Trailhead. Your specific meeting location will be confirmed upon booking.
Is transportation included?
Standard pricing does not include transportation, but it can be arranged and quoted as an add-on service upon request.
Are there restrooms at the trailhead?
Yes, both the Echo Canyon and Cholla trailheads have restroom facilities available at the base. Water fountains may be available but should not be relied upon as your sole hydration source.
Is food provided?
We provide light snacks during the hike and post-tour refreshments. We recommend eating a protein-rich breakfast before arriving for your tour.
Are reservations required?
Yes, reservations are required to ensure guide availability and to manage trailhead permitting.
What is the cancellation policy?
This tour has a 72-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the scheduled departure are non-refundable. Cancellations made outside the 72-hour window will receive a full refund, minus any applicable processing fees.
