Whether you've been climbing indoors for years or you're new to the sport, this Scottsdale rock climbing course provides the right balance of classroom and practical application to become a good "second" climber outdoors.  Outdoor rock climbing in Arizona is amazing and there are literally thousands of routes all over the state.  But rock climbing is a very dangerous pursuit and when done wrong, you can die. 

One of the worst things you can do is to learn bad habits.  But how can you tell when you're learning bad habits?  Learn from professionals.  We'll teach you the basics of this thrilling outdoor sport, including but not limited to:

  1. Required gear and care
  2. Knots
  3. Belaying 
  4. Climbing technique
  5. Basic anchors
  6. Climbing communication

Our focus is on teaching you good habits so you can climb for a lifetime.

Duration:  Full day

Departs:  May-September: 6:00am-3:00pm; October-April: 8:00am-5:00pm; all courses take place at Tom's Thumb trailhead in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Includes:  Permits & entry fees, skilled instructors, all ropes and anchor gear.

Cost:  $295 per person, minimum 2.  Single students add $150.  Gear rentals are available for $20/kit. Transportation (when available): $50/solo; $95 for groups 2-3; $175 for groups 4-10.

Season:  This class is available all year, weather dependent. 

Skill level:  Beginner to Intermediate - this course is perfect for first time climbers or those wanting to make the transition from indoor to outdoor climbing.  There is no minimum age, however children under 16 must have a parent present.

Notes:  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.  Comfortable clothing that allows for a range of motion is recommended.  Participants are required to have a helmet, harness, locking carabiner & belay device, and climbing shoes.  (Rental gear is available.)  Participants must wear appropriate closed-toe footwear to class.

Cancellation Policy:  All half and full day tours have a 72-hour cancelation policy.  If your plans change for any reason, please be sure to call at least 72 hours prior to the day of your tour to avoid charges.
